The event, which was cancelled in 2020 due to Covid and made a partially-masked return in 2021, is back with a bang this year as the red carpet is once again rolled out on the Croisette.

Emma Stone‘s Malibu manse.Stone — an Academy Award-winning actress known for her roles in “Superbad,” “The Help” and “La La Land,” the latter of which secured her Oscar win — is listing her blufftop home in that celeb-approved coastal city for $4.29 million, the Wall Street Journal reported.The 33-year-old Arizona native purchased the one-story ranch home that looks out to the Pacific Ocean for $3.25 million in 2018, the Journal noted.The three-bedroom, roughly 1,800-square-foot spread sits on some 3.2 acres. Most rooms look out to the ocean and Stone recently remodeled the eat-in kitchen — whose details include painted brick, a skylight above the sink and glossy cabinetry.Other listing images of the chic midcentury crib show a cozy living area with a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows, beamed ceilings and a fireplace.

In 1971, the Cannes Film Festival opened with a screening of Gimme Shelter by Albert and David Maysles, an immersive, vérité depiction of two weeks in the touring life of the Rolling Stones. If that was all it did, it might have been forgotten by now. But by a terrible freak of chance, the filmmakers followed the band to the most notorious concert of their entire career — the Altamont Speedway Free Festival in Livermore, CA, where the Stones, along with Santana, Jefferson Airplane, The Flying Burrito Brothers and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, were set to perform a free concert for 300,000 people on Dec. 6, 1969. “We didn’t know what it was going to be,” Albert said later. “We just had a childish faith that having seen the Stones and getting along with them, there might be a feature film there.”

Jem Aswad Senior Music EditorIt took a village to create Kendrick Lamar’s mind-melting new video for his song “The Heart Part 5,” which on the surface is just him performing in front of a red backdrop until you realize that his face deepfakes into those of OJ Simpson, Jussie Smollett, Nipsey Hussle, Kobe Bryant and Kanye West (who, ironically, himself dropped a video the same day using deepfake technology).While the video was directed and executive produced by Lamar and longtime collaborator Dave Free and features a host of creative collaborators (listed below), the deep fake is credited to Deep Voodoo, a studio launched by “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone to specialize in the technology — and the “The Heart Part 5” video appears to be the first fruit of a partnership between Lamar’s PGLang company and the “South Park” founders’ Park County banner to produce a new feature film for Paramount Pictures. (While Lamar, Parker, Stone and reps for PG Lang and Deep Voodoo all declined Variety’s requests for an interview about.) The Deep Voodoo studio — the name of which almost certainly was chosen in part for its phonic similarity to the term “deep doodoo” — made its first major splash late in 2020 with “Sassy Justice,” a spoof of a television investigative report on deep fakes done in collaboration with actor Peter Serafinowicz.

Coachella co-founder Paul Tollett has spoken about Kanye West’s exit from the line-up for the 2022 edition of the Californian festival.West had been booked to headline the double weekender in Indio, California, which took place earlier this month, but dropped out just days before the gates were due to open.In a new interview with the LA Times, Tollett has shared his reaction to West pulling out of the bill. “I’m good with Kanye,” he said. “I Zoomed with him a couple days prior and I think it was a good decision for him.”Swedish House Mafia and The Weeknd replaced the rapper and the festival boss revealed that it was The Weeknd and his manager who had approached Coachella first.

Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s “As Bestas,” a French-Spanish movie, has been added to Cannes Première, the new section dedicated to world premieres for movies that are slightly more mainstream, similarly to the out-of-competition strand.

The charming Northern Rivers region town of Kyogle will be hosting a weekend of literary celebration with more than sixty authors and poets participating in a mixture of free community based and affordable events from May 13 till May 15. The line-up of queer Australian writers will include Michael Burge (TANK WATER, MIDNIGHT SUN), Hayley Katzen (UNTETHERED), Gavin Yuan Gao (AT THE ALTER OF TOUCH), Ellen van Neerven (HEAD AND LIGHT, COMFORT FOOD, THROAT) and Mykaela Saunders (THIS ALL COME BACK NOW).

Download Festival Japan has revealed the first wave of artists for its 2022 line-up, led by Dream Theater and Bullet For My Valentine.They will be joined by Mastodon, Steel Panther, At The Gates and The Halo Effect on August 14 at the Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Center in Chiba, with more acts yet to be announced.This will mark the first edition of Download Japan since it debuted in the country in 2019.
