As Britain’s largest family, appearing in their own documentary series and having their own YouTube channel, the Radfords are used to having lots of media attention. However, being in the public eye can result in trolling, and in recent years, Sue Radford reveals she’s stopped looking at hateful online comments. With parents everywhere struggling to protect children from the worst of social media, Sue has become vigilant with her own.
In an exclusive interview with OK!, 22 Kids and Counting mum, Sue reveals she backs the government’s plan to ban the use of mobile phones in schools which has become a huge talking point amongst parents. Sue explains that none of her children had a phone before they were 11 and the younger ones are not allowed access to social platforms. While a lot of hateful comments which Sue believes are stemmed from jealousy, remain online, there was a recent in-person incident that Sue recalls left her shaken.
“I was in Sainsbury’s when a woman huffed at me disapprovingly and gave me the most filthy look.- it was like she wanted me dead. “When I challenged her she told me she thought ‘a lot of people’ wanted to give me the same look. It was awful.” Something that the family have been scrutinised for in the past is their family holidays and speculation about how the couple afford their family breaks.
“People just jump to conclusions,” adds Sue. “We don’t claim benefits - the pie company is very successful and so is our media business. We work hard but we’re certainly not millionaires! “The nastiness is upsetting though.
