Streaming Guide: The Best Classic TV Shows on Every Platform

Long gone are the days when cartoons were made solely for kids' Saturday morning viewing pleasure. Thanks to the likes of The Simpsons, Beavis and Butt-Head, and South Park, adult-oriented animated programs have been proliferating for quite some time, with favorites like Family Guy, Rick and Morty, Bob's Burgers, and Tuca & Bertie broadening the scope of just how hilarious all of those drawn characters can be.

Keeping up with peak TV has been if not an all-consuming and ultimately futile effort, then at least a little: Every channel is pumping out original content. And seemingly every day a new streaming service launches — and they all have original content too. It was becoming too much. Or it was in the time before, when we had to balance our TV watching with...literally anything else.

These days, there is no shortage of bingeable TV shows, and new streaming series and episodes of your favorites seem to be dropping at an increasingly dizzying speed (just look at the heaping list of titles that were added to the major streaming services this month alone).

In the old days, superheroes were relegated to the pages of comic books, but now, you can't flip through the channels or scroll past two tiles on a streaming service without seeing someone in tights saving the day. The superhero genre is officially booming, and we aren't complaining!

As we approach the end of May, our world remains a pretty scary and uncertain place as states around the U.S. begin to open up. One way of dealing with the fear and anxiety the coronavirus has created is to channel it into watching a lot of TV, specifically, watching supernatural shows.

On these types of series, it all hinges on the harden yet relatable main detective or central character investigating the mystery at hand.

If you're looking for something to watch to take your mind off things, why not make it a supernatural show? These programs are everywhere and one of the best ways to escape into the unknown (along with science-fiction and fantasy programming, of course), and while some supernatural programs can border on horror, others are more light-hearted and filled with humor even as they explore the sometimes unexplainable. The possibilities truly are endless.

Whether you're actually a teenager or those days are long behind you, there is no right or wrong age to dive into a great teen TV show. And between charming comedies like Never Have I Ever, sexy murder mysteries like Riverdale, high-stakes comedic capers like One My Block, or a supernatural romance like The Vampire Diaries, Netflix's library is filled with great teen shows that make it easy to find your perfect next binge-watch.

Today, there’s no shortage of true-crime documentaries re-examining present or past cases as well as media sensations that have previously captivated the nation. The latest wave of America’s insatiable appetite for the genre was first sparked by the first season of the podcast , which aired in 2014. When you're trying to get lost in a story, nothing else hits quite like a quality cop show. Whether it's a Dick Wolf drama where the bad guy usually gets his due, a prestige cable series that raises complicated questions about the criminal justice system in lieu of a gift-wrapped ending, or a comedy about bungling officers trying their best, these captivating shows have a way of sucking one in for hours on end.

This might come as a bit of a surprise to some of you (though perhaps not if you're reading this), but there are a lot more fantasy programs out there than just HBO's Game of Thronesand Netflix's The Witcher (though both are on this list).
