Kate Garraway's new ITV documentary Caring for Derek has been met with praise from viewers, who couldn't help but call their carer Jake a "hero" for how he's been helping the family. Derek, 54, returned home in April 2021 after spending a year in hospital fighting for his life after contracting coronavirus in 2020, which has since left him battling a number of ongoing health issues. In Kate's documentary, which aired on Tuesday 22 February, Kate, also 54, showed the realities of the work that goes into making sure Derek is comfortable and well taken care of.
