Despite Still Game being a show of the past, Boaby the Barman is still very much still going strong, with actor Gavin Mitchell back behind the bar once again today, pulling pints at the famous Blackfriars pub in Glasgow.
The popular pub in the Merchant City reopened its doors under new ownership today, and the Still Game star was there to lend a helping hand. Gavin, best known for his iconic role as Robert ‘Boaby the Barman’ Taylor, cut the ribbon, and even dished out pints to punters.
The actor said he was delighted to open the establishment and was excited for the Merchant City to have a buzz about it again.
Gavin said: “I’m delighted to see the legendary Blackfriars being saved and reopening. A few more choices of beer here than The Clansman, and more than just pies on the menu. Superb to see they are offering comedians plenty of gig opportunities and events, bringing back a buzz to Merchant City.”
The Blackfriars is now run by same team behind popular gastro pub The Duke’s Umbrella and restaurant and bar Gōst. Group Development Chef John Molloy said they are looking forward to welcoming the people of Glasgow back.
He said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming people through the doors to enjoy some stand out pub grub including Scottish scampi and our Eye of the Tiger burger, which, trust me, has got real chilli heat. Made with Blackfriars own Eye of the Tiger hot sauce, this burger packs an eye watering one million Scoville rating and is not for the faint of heart."
Andy McCartney, Owner of Blackfriars, said: “We’re excited to finally unveil Blackfriars to regulars and new customers alike. We wanted to give this Glasgow pub staple a face lift and refresh the menu; creating something that’s familiar but still exciting.”
