Life in the public eye can't be easy, especially for Steps star Claire Richards, who has cruelly faced scrutiny for her weight over the years.
The 46 year old revealed her battles sadly began as she was reportedly told to lose weight as a teenager, when auditioning for iconic pop group Steps.
Then, after leaving the band, the blonde weighed almost 15 stone and wore a size 20. But these days, the mum of two has never felt or looked happier, which is why she can't wrap her head around people still commenting on her weight.
Claire told OK!: "I've been the same weight for ten years yet people still think of me as when I put on some weight. It's frustrating because it was a short period of time but it sticks in people's heads "I try to be healthy now and will eat what I want but exercise to balance it out, I don't overthink it." It’s approaching 30 years since Claire entered the music industry, firstly in 1995 in the short-lived girl band TSD and then joining Steps in 1997.
And it’s clear the singer has as much enthusiasm for performing as ever, as she chats about her forthcoming concert tour, Everybody Dance, and why getting older has made her feel more confident. Set to take to the stage in October for the touring show, which is described as the “ultimate dance floor party”, Claire says she’s really excited to be heading out on the road again.
“It’s not like a concert – it’s more of a theatrical singing show with, hopefully, all the disco and dance songs everybody knows and loves,” she says. “I think the older I get, I feel like new challenges and new things are good to do.
