Star Wars‘ Andor series on Disney+ was meant to include the franchise’s first ever F-bomb.
While the swear word was ultimately cut from the episode in question, director Benjamin Caron and showrunner Tony Gilroy, were so passionate about including it that they went to drastic measures to convince Disney not to cut it out and reveal why including it was important.

The f-bomb word was meant to be featured in the episode that feature Maarva Andor’s (played by Fiona Shaw) funeral.
During the scene of her funeral, Maarva appears in a holographic message to the Ferrix people, where she was meant to say “F*** the Empire”, but it was changed to “Fight the Empire” instead.
“But Disney wouldn’t let us use it,” Benjamin recalled while talking with Variety about the episode. “So we changed it to ‘fight the empire.’ I remember having a call with Tony Gilroy saying, ‘Are we gonna get away with this?’”
Tony then said that he went and “wrote a legal brief for it. I wrote a memo on it and said, ‘Here’s why I think it’s economically prudent, and here’s why I think it’s good.’”
Including the F-bomb was an integral part of that piece of the story, they said, because on top of just the message, was “Cassian’s journey in the middle of it. He has to find out what’s going on, he has to go through tunnels, he has to come up to the side, he has to save Bix; he has to do all these various things.”
Benjamin added, “We had this eight-minute piece of music. The way that Tony had written this story, the rhythm of the action, was very interconnected with the music and many players on the set.”
In a recent pair of interviews, Diego Luna revealed he wasn’t sure that the show would ever get made, and Tony also spoke about

was known for pushing boundaries and putting it all out there, but there was one line the franchise decided not to cross. On Thursday's episode of , Cynthia Nixon -- who played attorney Miranda Hobbes on and the Max spin-off, -- shared the one sex scene from the original series that was cut. «Miranda dated a really hot detective who she was very intimidated by, he was really out of her league, so she got wildly drunk,» the 57-year-old actress recalled.
What do we know about the new “Star Wars” series “Skeleton Crew” from creators Jon Watts (director of the Marvel/Sony ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy) and Christopher Ford (one of the writers on Watts’ “Spider-Man: Homecoming”)? Well, we know it has an Amblin vibe, with the producer citing things like “E.T.” and “The Goonies” as influences.

While the premiere “Andor” Season 2 remains just over a year away, it’s safe to say it’s easily the most hyped series in the “Star Wars” Disney+ upcoming lineup. Yup, more so than “Ahsoka” or “The Acolyte,” or more episodes of “The Mandalorian.” And fans already know a little about what they should expect in new episodes of “Andor.” For one, Season 2 runs twelve episodes, with a time jump in the narrative every three episodes.
Michael Shannon, who recently reprised his role of General Zod in The Flash, is opening up about why he turned down a role in the Star Wars franchise back in 2016.
Just as he redefined the legal drama with the Oscar-winning movie Michael Clayton, Tony Gilroy has made arguably the most serious Star Wars streaming series to date in Disney+/Lucasfilm’s Andor, which is steeped in the binary of a burgeoning morose utilitarian empire that’s dominating the denizens of the universe.
This story about Andy Serkis and “Andor” first ran in the drama issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… Andy Serkis was already a part of “Star Wars.”Thanks to the magic of performance capture, the actor starred as Snoke, the gnarled heir apparent to the evil Galactic Emperor, in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and Rian Johnson’s “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” So it was a surprise when Serkis, in human form, popped up in “Andor,” Tony Gilroy’s live-action prequel series to 2016’s “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”Serkis plays Kino Loy, an inmate in an Imperial prison that is also holding Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor. Loy is a gruff enforcer who is slowly radicalized by Andor and his escape plan.
In the recent teaser trailers for the Star Wars: Ahsoka series we see many familiar characters. One of which is the Mandalorian Sabine Wren. Sabine made her debut in Star Wars Rebels and quickly became a fan favorite. For casual Star Wars fans, these trailers may be confusing.
When Andy Serkis tells you that a Science Fiction or Fantasy story is special, believe him. An integral part of the most recent “The Lord of the Rings” and “Planet of the Apes” cinematic franchises, the celebrated British actor and filmmaker knows how hard it is to balance real-world themes in fantastical worlds.
As an animated anthology series, Star Wars: Visions gives animation studios from around the world an opportunity to bring their perspective and inspirations to the Star Wars universe. Chilean director Gabriel Osorio brought Patagonian influences to the story of his episode “In the Stars.” The short follows two sisters living in hiding from the invading Empire. As the last of their kind, they must fight back when they are discovered. Using the Empire as a colonizing force, Osorio brought in elements of the actual story of how Patagonia was colonized and used the appearance of stop motion for the animation to give the short a “handcrafted feel.”
There have been plenty of Star Wars games over the years, but nothing like what Star Wars Outlaws could be. This completely open-world game developed by Ubisoft is set to release sometime in 2024. Star Wars games have mostly been focused on action adventure games and shooters in recent years.
There are a ton of changes happening to the theatrical release calendar.
Star Wars series Andor was supposed to feature the franchise’s first ever F-bomb, but it ended up being refused by Disney.Created by Tony Gilroy, the series takes place five years before events in 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, as Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) becomes involved in the mounting resistance against the Galactic Empire. It is the fourth live-action series set in the Star Wars universe, following The Mandalorian, The Book Of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi. In a new interview with Variety, director Benjamin Caron revealed that the show was set to feature an F-bomb in a crucial scene, but the request ended up being turned down by Disney. In the scene, Cassian’s late adoptive mother Maarva Andor delivers a speech via hologram, which ends: “Fight the Empire!”As Caron revealed, the initial script instead had her saying: “Fuck the empire!”“Disney wouldn’t let us use it,” he revealed. “So we changed it to ‘Fight the empire.’ I remember having a call with Tony Gilroy saying, ‘Are we gonna get away with this?’”The director added how he “wrote a legal brief” to Disney encouraging them to let them use the word.
Sometimes there is no greater thrill than taking a gigantic risk and being rewarded for it. In many ways, that’s what Tony Gilroy, Diego Luna and the cast and crew of “Andor” have experienced over the past year.
Todd Spangler NY Digital Editor Fred Ryan, publisher and CEO of the Washington Post, announced that he is stepping down after nine years at Jeff Bezos-owned newspaper. Ryan cited “the decline in civility” in political discourse — and “more broadly across our society” — for his decision to leave the Post to lead the newly created nonpartisan Center on Public Civility, launched by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute. In an earlier era, “Political leaders on opposite sides of the aisle could find common ground for the good of the country,” Ryan wrote in a memo to Washington Post staff announcing his departure. “Today, the decline in civility has become a toxic and corrosive force that threatens our social interactions and weakens the underpinnings of our democracy. I feel a strong sense of urgency about this issue.” (Read his memo below.)
