‘Kangaroo’ Set as First Feature for Cultivator Films, StudioCanal Australian Production Arm (EXCLUSIVE)

Patrick Frater Asia Bureau Chief France-based multinational Studiocanal has launched Cultivator Films to facilitate local co-productions in Australia and will kick off with book-to-film adaptation “Kangaroo.” “Kangaroo” is scripted by Harry Cripps (“The Dry,” “Penguin Bloom”) and directed by Kate Woods (“The Lincoln Lawyer,” “The Umbrella Academy,” “The Good Lord Bird,” “Looking for Alibrandi”). Eastern Arrernte emerging director Samantha Laughton is set as a director’s attachment. Slated to start production in Alice Springs in the first half of 2024, “Kangaroo” is a Northern Territory-inspired story based on Chris Barnes, aka ‘Brolga,’ who is the founder of the Kangaroo Sanctuary in Alice Springs. Cultivator Films Australia is led by Studiocanal’s Australia and New Zealand CEO Elizabeth Trotman.

Bob Geldof has revealed that there are plans to release a new Live Aid IMAX film.Geldof, a former member of The Boomtown Rats turned activist, and ex-Ultravox co-lead singer Midge Ure, organised the concert held on July 13, 1985 to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia.Live Aid was attended by about 72,000 people at London’s Wembley Stadium, and, simultaneously more than 89,000 people at the John F. ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Batman’ director Robert Butler dies, aged 95

Star Trek and Batman, has died at the age of 95.His death earlier this month was announced in an obituary this weekend (November 11), which revealed Butler died just two weeks before his 96th birthday. “Robert Stanton Butler, revered television director, loving husband, devoted father and doting grandfather, passed away on November 3 2023 in Los Angeles,” the obituary read.Butler’s career spanned nearly five decades in which he directed many shows including Star Trek, Batman (the original Adam West-starring series), The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Twilight Zone, Hawaii Five-O, Moonlighting and many more.He won three Primetime Emmy Awards during his career – two for The Blue Knight in 1974 and the other for Hill Street Blues in 1981.Butler also co-created Remington Steele, a series which ran from 1982 to 1987 in NBC and gave future Bond star Pierce Brosnan his break.He directed several feature films and television movies too such as Now You See Him, Now You Don’t, The Barefoot Executive, Scandalous John and Disney’s The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes.The Directors Guild of America paid tribute to Butler today (November 12).
