Police in Texarkana, Texas, announced over the weekend the Oct. 7 arrest of a man they allege stole a truck and "scared the beejeebies" out of people by strolling around a Walmart parking lot with a hatchet in the front of his pants. Jerry Toney, 25, was apprehended by officers as he was getting into a black Dodge pickup at a Walmart while sporting a hatchet and baton in his pants, which he reportedly said he needed for protection, according to local KSLA.

The attorneys for disgraced South Carolina legal scion Alex Murdaugh claimed in new court documents that the results of a lie-detector test point to a different suspect in the killings of his wife and son, claiming state prosecutors are intentionally suppressing evidence in the double murder case.  A motion to compel filed on Friday by Columbia lawyers Dick Harpootlian and Jim Griffin alleges state investigators turned a "blind eye" to evidence linking Curtis "Fast Eddie" Smith to the homicides of Maggie Murdaugh and 22-year-old son, Paul Murdaugh, who were both found shot to death by different firearms near dog kennels on the family’s sprawling Colleton County estate on June 7, 2021.  Smith, a former legal client and distant cousin of Murdaugh, was hooked up to a polygraph machine and questioned by a South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) agent in May. He answered "no" when asked if he shot Maggie, shot Paul and whether he was present during the killings, but the responses to those three questions showed "indicative of attempted deception," the motion says.  "I know I was nowhere near the place where Maggie and Paul got killed at," Smith told the agent, according to The Post and Courier, maintaining that he had three friends over to his home that night.

A South Carolina man broke into his ex-girlfriend's home and stole her mother's cremated remains with the intention to sell them for money to purchase heroin, according to deputies. Jackson Rutland, 19, contacted his ex around 5:40 a.m. on Wednesday to inform her he had taken some of her mother's ashes.The ex was not home at the time, as she had spent the night at a friend's house.

A man using drugs who hadn't slept in days shot and killed five people in a South Carolina home where people gathered to get high, a sheriff said Tuesday. James Douglas Drayton, 24, was arrested on Monday in Burke County, Georgia, after crashing during a police chase, said Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright at a news conference. Drayton was driving a car taken from the home where the shooting took place in the city of Inman, the sheriff said.

A South Carolina man was arrested on Monday, accused of murdering three family members, including a local councilman, authorities said.  Matthew Allen Dewitt, 25, remained in custody at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Tuesday following the deaths of Natasha Stevens, 52, in Conway, South Carolina and James DeWitt II, 52 and Gloria DeWitt, 52, outside of Columbia, South Carolina, the Horry County Police Department said on social media.

An Indiana man accused of smuggling three migrants crashed his car during a high-speed chase in Uvalde County recently, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.  Richard Diaz, 21, allegedly told police that he was being paid $3,000 per person to smuggle the migrants from the border community of Eagle Pass to San Antonio.  He was charged with two counts of human smuggling causing serious bodily injury, Texas DPS spokesman Christopher Olivarez told Fox News Digital.  The driver sped off during an apparent traffic stop in Uvalde County, Texas.  (Texas Department of Public Safety) Dashcam footage shows the driver accelerate away from an apparent traffic stop at night. As the driver sped through what appears to be a residential area, his vehicle spun out of control and careened off the road into a pole.  One of the migrants suffered a severe head injury, according to Texas DPS.Two of the migrants were males from Mexico, while the third was a woman from Guatemala.  The driver's vehicle careened off the road and wrecked into a pole.  (Texas Department of Public Safety) Diaz told the responding officer after the wreck that he "panicked."  It's the latest incident of human smuggling to strike Uvalde, which like other communities near the U.S.-Mexico border, has been inundated with migrants in recent months.  One of the migrants suffered a severe head injury, according to Texas DPS.  (Texas Department of Public Safety) Last month, a 17-year-old girl who police say was "involved in human smuggling" crashed a vehicle in downtown Uvalde, leaving two people dead and 10 others injured.  "The nightmare of the border crisis, when will it end?" A man accused of twice tossing a dog over a bridge said he was instructed to do by witches, according to police.  Spartanburg County Environmental Enforcement Officers responded to a call Monday, October 3, 2022, of someone tossing a dog from a bridge over water located on Highway 11 in the Fingerville area of Spartanburg County.  A mugshot of Shannon Lee Cantrell.  (Spartanburg County Environmental Enforcement) A witness told officers that a man was tossing a dog off and over the bridge. Officers searched in the area below the bridge and found a man – later identified as 43-year-old Shannon Lee Cantrell – holding a dog in a choke hold.  Cantrell told the officers that "witches" told him to throw the dog from the bridge.

Funeral arrangements have been set for a Georgia star high school football player gunned down in a mall parking lot last week, as investigators still work to determine the motive for the shooting allegedly carried out by two teenagers later apprehended in South Carolina after fleeing the scene.  Elijah DeWitt, an 18-year-old wider receiver at Jefferson High School, was fatally shot on Oct. 5 at approximately 8:15 p.m.

The family of a man brutally killed in Austin, Texas, told Fox News Digital that the county's Soros-backed progressive district attorney has ignored their objections to lenient sentences for all five defendants in the case and shown he "doesn't care" about crime victims. Christopher Branham, a 26-year-old father of two, was murdered on June 24, 2020, after being beaten and robbed in a mob-style attack at a Round Rock, Texas, motel by five individuals.
