South Ayrshire Tories have teamed up to launch a new campaign aimed at reducing speeding and improving road safety in the region.
South Scotland Conservative MSP, Sharon Dowey, is spearheading the campaign titled 'What's the Rush?'
The campaign follows Ayrshire Live's exclusive report on Tuesday which revealed South Ayrshire was named in Scotland’s top-10 dangerous areas for drivers.
MSP Sharon Dowey said: “There’s never an excuse for breaking the speed limit because each time you push your foot harder than you should on the accelerator, you’re putting others at risk.
“Communities right across South Ayrshire are concerned about speeding. It’s not surprising to see that so many residents in South Ayrshire are worried, and now that it’s in the top-10 dangerous areas for drivers, it’s clear that the situation is only getting worse."
Scottish Conservative Candidate for Troon, Rose Hall, said: “After chatting to local residents during the campaign trail, it’s clear that road safety and speeding is concerning drivers up and down South Ayrshire.
“All too often I’ve heard people say that if you’re speeding no more than ten per cent over the limit, then the police won’t bother. We need to change that mindset, so that drivers think twice before pushing any harder on the accelerator.”
She added: “It doesn’t matter whether the limit is 70mph on the A78 just outside Troon or 20mph in our local communities, we’ve got to make sure that people stick to the limit. That way, drivers and pedestrians will feel much safer on their journeys.”
