Gary Neville could face Contempt of Court action following a comment he made on social media made during pal Ryan Giggs' trial. The former Manchester United defender has been referred to the Attorney General after Judge Hilary Manley learned of Neville's comment, which was included in an Instagram post the 47-year-old posted at 4am on the opening day of court proceedings.

In one message said to be from Ryan to Kate Greville, the footballer wrote that his girlfriend was “finished” and in another he asked: “Do I have to let you go Kate?” Peter Wright QC read out a message from Giggs in January 2019 in which he said: “What the f*, blocking me?? “F**** unblock me now.” He asked Giggs: “Was that the angry Ryan in that message?” to which he replied: “Yes.” Mr Wright went on: “The demanding Ryan?” to which he replied “Yes," again.
