Shed Seven have got the birthday present of their dreams - their first No1 album.
The York group’s A Matter of Time became their first chart topper today, kicking off their 30th anniversary celebrations in style.
Their sixth studio album, which includes a duet with Libertines’ Pete Doherty, is their first in seven years.
It sounds like a rip-roaring debut from a young band not the work of a group who were formed in 1990 and who began releasing music in 1994.
Ahead of sold out instore shows at HMV Glasgow Argyle Street tomorrow and Sunday, frontman Rick Witter, 51. reveals how he wants the Sheds to be the new Rolling Stones and how he landed a Libertine.
How you feeling about the new album going to No1?
To have waited this long to get this opportunity is amazing in itself. We’ve certainly put the groundwork in. We are absolutely thrilled. We are very thankful to our hardcore, loyal fanbase who persist in buying Shed Seven records. It’s very exciting. I’ve tried not to think about it when we found out it was No1 in the midweeks. I’m really happy we’ve been busy all week playing instore record shops. It’s taken my mind off it.

Maybe two original members leaving might have just spurred us on. We didn’t set out for any of this to happen. Me and Paul decided to start writing in March 2022. By Christmas 2022 we found ourselves with what we’ve got.
