A Spanish judge has said that there is “sufficient evidence” for Shakira to face trial in the country for alleged tax evasion, meaning the case against the musician being pursued by Spain’s tax authorities will proceed.It first emerged that those authorities were investigating Shakira over allegations of tax evasion back in early 2018.

A judge has recommended that Shakira ‘face trial’ after the pop star found herself in hot water with authorities in Spain for allegedly evading €14.5 million in tax.

Shakira could be facing a tax fraud investigation in Spain. During a three-year investigation of the Colombian singer, who has a home in Barcelona, Judge Marco Juberías found «sufficient evidence of criminality,» and recommended that her case go to trial, according to the Associated Press.  In December 2019, Shakira was charged for not paying 14.5 million euros (about $16 million) in taxes between in 2012 and 2014, while she lived in Spain.

Shakira may face trial in Spain after prosecutors claimed she avoided paying £13million in tax in the years 2012, 2013 and 2014.The 44 year old Colombian singer, real name Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, has been accused of six offences, which could result in the hitmaker serving jail time if convicted. Shakira changed residences in 2015 from the Bahamas to Barcelona, where she lives with her partner, footballer Gerard Piqué, 34, and their two sons, Milan, eight, and Sasha, six.
