Neither Manchester United or Manchester City will have a clean bill of health going into Saturday’s FA Cup final.
United have been plagued by injuries all season, tallying 45 separate cases during the regular season, excluding pre-season. City have been stretched at times too due to their smaller squad with nearly every defender out with an issue at some stage.
Pep Guardiola sympathised with Erik ten Hag over the amount of setbacks his side have suffered: “They do not have a full squad, not all [the] squad [is] ready all season. A lot of injuries, [the] manager has suffered a lot."

Between the two clubs as many as seven players could miss the trip, with four guaranteed to sit out.
Harry Maguire is one of the trio of United players certain to miss the final. He is still suffering from the muscular injury that has kept him sidelined for two-and-a-half weeks.
Meanwhile Luke Shaw, who like Maguire was named in England’s provisional Euro 2024 squad, is still nursing his own muscular problem that was picked up back in February. Fellow left-back Tyrell Malacia has not been seen all season and won’t make the cut for Saturday.
He underwent major knee surgery in the summer but it didn’t go as planned, prompting him to go under the knife again before suffering setbacks in his rehabilitation. Malacia’s last outing came on the final day of the 2022/23 season.
Meanwhile, three more United stars are facing late fitness calls. Victor Lindelof, Mason Mount and Anthony Martial have all been out for significant periods. Mount has missed the last three games due to a fourth injury of the season.
