Thania Garcia Mary J. Blige, Pepsi and Live Nation Urban are joining forces to put together the second annual Strength of a Woman Festival and Summit in Atlanta’s State Farm Arena on May 11-14. The festival was launched by Blige last year as a means to empower women and their communities with live music events and special programming curated by an all-Black, female-led team consisting of Blige, Nicole Jackson, VP of MJB Inc., and Ashaunna Ayars of the Ayars Agency. This year’s iteration will kick off with a new special live music event with Grammy Award winner Robert Glasper. There will additionally be a #HipHop50 celebration hosted by Kenny Burns featuring rarely-performed hits by Blige and friends dubbed the “MJB B-Sides” set; and a special R&B night with performances by Lauryn Hill, Summer Walker, Lucky Daye, Muni Long, and more.

Robert Webb has described his heart surgery as a “gift” as it forced him to think about his health and put himself first. The actor and comedian, 50, is best known for appearing alongside David Mitchell in Channel 4 comedy Peep Show, where he plays unemployed musician Jez, and in sketch show That Mitchell And Webb Look. In 2019, he had a routine medical check during filming for the second series of his Channel 4 sitcom Back, alongside Mitchell, which revealed he had a congenital heart defect.

Jem Aswad Senior Music Editor Disney+ will celebrate Miley Cyrus’ forthcoming eighth studio album with a special event titled “Miley Cyrus ‒ Endless Summer Vacation (Backyard Sessions).” Cyrus serves as executive producer on the music-focused special from Disney Branded Television, which will feature songs from the album. The special is set to premiere on Friday, March 10, at 1 p.m. EST/10 a.m. PST on Disney+, and will feature Cyrus performing songs from “Endless Summer Vacation,” including her hit single “Flowers,” seven additional tracks from the album, one of her chart-topping classic hits and a special performance with Rufus Wainwright. The “Backyard Sessions” are a series that Cyrus began in 2012 for her fans. Viewers were quickly taken with the experience of watching the singer and her band perform in an outdoor setting, and “Endless Summer Vacation (Backyard Sessions)” serves as a continuation.

But NBCUniversal is hoping the retooled comedy will lead Madison Avenue into the future. When the original program launched, built around star Harry Anderson as a non-traditional metropolitan judge, NBC sold ads against the debut broadcast of each episode as well as a rerun later in the season. Now, says Mark Marshall, the executive recently given wider oversight over NBCUniversal’s national ad sales, the company is selling broad-reach ads attached to the linear debut of each episode as well as targeted advertising that appears adjacent to the series when it streams on Peacock.

Donna Summer could hit notes more thrillingly beautiful than any other pop singer of her time, or since. I’m not sure even Whitney Houston, as great as she was, quite reached the glistening heights that culminate “Last Dance” (though she comes very close in “I Will Always Love You”). Mariah Carey (no relation to me) performs impressive vocal acrobatics, yet to my ear she can’t match the bell-like shimmer of Donna in the higher registers. And Donna in the lower registers – well, the voice thrums with visceral resonance.

The documentary Love to Love You, Donna Summer, about one of the world’s greatest pop stars, constitutes a kind of duet – between two filmmakers. The film, making its world premiere in Berlin, comes from directors Roger Ross Williams and Brooklyn Sudano, daughter of the subject of the film, the legendary Donna Summer.
