A section of the Mancunian Way has been closed off this afternoon for emergency repairs.
The eastbound carriageway is currently shut off between Downing Street and Fairfield Street, according to traffic alert service Inrix. Emergency manhole repairs are being carried out at the scene.
Police have urged drivers to avoid the area. Traffic is being diverted off the eastbound carriageway.

In a tweet, GMP Traffic said: "Eastbound carriageways of Mancunian Way closed due to danger in the highway. Traffic diverted off into #Ardwick #MancunianWay #Manchester Avoid if at all possible please."
Congestion is currently back to Chester Road roundabout, according to Transport for Greater Manchester.

Transport bosses have issued a warning to the public across Greater 'not to get caught out' as the rail strike enters its third day on Saturday - the first weekend day of the industrial action. The action means Manchester Piccadilly railway station will close at 7pm on Saturday.
