An East Lothian mum has told how her kids were left screaming after seeing the family dog hit by a car and dragged up the street. Denise Steele told how two-year-old Bonnie bolted out of the garden of their Wallyford home and into the path of a red Mini on Tuesday, April 4.
The terrifying incident, which was witnessed by the two children, aged eight and five, as well as Denise’s husband, has been reported to police who are due to come and see the family.
The English bulldog was left with several nasty cuts on her head and legs which were treated by a vet. Denise alleged the car failed to stop following the incident despite her husband 'shouting'.
The waitress told Edinburgh Live : “Bonnie ran out the garden and a red Mini came up the road and hit her, dragging her up the road. My two kids aged five and eight were screaming.
"We called the police as we have the registration and we're waiting to hear back from them. My kids love playing with Bonnie and are always out in the street, cars just need to slow down coming up our street.
"She is very scared when she hears a car coming since the incident and even when we take her out in the garden she is not the same. I just keep thinking it could have been one of my kids and it could have been a lot worse.
"I understand these things happen but for the driver to not even stop was just so wrong and the screams that came from my husband and kids would definitely have alerted the driver."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "On Tuesday, 4 April, 2023 we received a report that a dog had been injured by a car in the Wallyford area."
