A convicted sex offender who raped a young girl and abused her sister while staying at their Ayrshire home has died in custody.
Evil Stewart Cuthill was given a lifelong restriction order in 2010 after admitting the abuse at the High Court in Glasgow.
The 69-year-old carried out the attacks on the girls, then aged 11 and 15, between 2005 and 2006 at their home in Kilwinning.
The court was told that Cuthill forcibly had sex with the youngest girl before telling her that no one would believe her if she ever disclosed the abuse.
He went on to carry out two sex attacks on the first victim’s sister in 2005.
After the first terrifying incident, the teenager put her bed against the door in a bid to keep him away.
But Cuthill managed to get hold of her a second time and forced her to perform a sex act on him.
She later told her mum what the vile predator had done to her but the woman was too drunk to respond.
The first victim also made disclosures to her mum but was reportedly told to “keep her mouth shut”.
One of the children eventually told a different relative who contacted police, with Cuthill arrested a short time later.
Judge Bill Dunlop branded him a “predator” and ordered him to serve a minimum of seven years behind bars.
It was revealed that Cuthill, a former security guard, was already on the sex offenders register after having sex with a 15-year-old girl at a holiday camp in Cumbria.
The Scottish Prison Service confirmed that Cuthill died on January 22 while serving his sentence at HMP Glenochil.
A Fatal Accident Inquiry into the circumstances will be held at a later date.
A spokesperson said: “Stewart Cuthill, 69, a prisoner from HMP Glenochil has died on 22 January 2022. He was sentenced at Glasgow High Court in 2010.
