A Scots dad has died just seven days after being told he had terminal cancer when he was rushed into hospital with fluid in his lungs.
Gavin Nicolson, 57, was taken by ambulance to the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh after struggling to breathe on Thursday, November 10. Medics drained the fluid in his lungs - however, after more tests, doctors discovered Gavin had terminal cancer that had spread all over his body and into his brain.
As reported by Edinburgh Live, the dad's two children Jacob, 27, and Jade, 34, have been left heartbroken by the shock loss and the family are completely devastated. Gavin's heartbroken sister-in-law Tora said: "He went into hospital and there was fluid on his lungs, they drained the fluid and then the hospital did further tests and found out he had cancer everywhere.
"He deteriorated quickly and wasn't even aware he had terminal cancer because he had become unconscious and never woken up again. His kids are heartbroken, they didn't expect it at all.
"He had Covid in the hospital too so visitors were very limited and they didn't get to spend as much time with him - but at the end [his ex-wife] Zoe, Jacob and Jade were by his side."
Gavin's family have now set up a fundraising page to help pay for the funeral and they have been overwhelmed by donations from friends offering their services to put together a special celebration of his life.
Paying tribute, Tora added: "He was my brother-in-law and the dad of my niece and nephew. Even though he and my sister Zoe got divorced 20 years ago we all stayed close as a family and he was a brilliant dad.
"Jacob stayed with his dad for a couple of years and they were really close. He hadn't worked recently due to having poor health not related to
