Certain Barclays bank account owners in Scotland may soon have to travel to England to visit a branch as one location is set to close its doors.
Barclays Dumfries on Castle Street will be permanently shutting on Friday, October 13, giving customers just over six weeks to visit for help with their accounts in person.
When this branch shuts, customers may have to cross the border and visit England for face-to-face appointments - a move which local MSPs have hailed as "ridiculous".
Barclays announced back in July that 14 branches are to be axed throughout the UK with 11 in England, two in Wales and one in Scotland at Dumfries.
And the bank has recently revealed that a further nine branches will shut before Christmas, although none of these are in Scotland.
A Barclays spokesman said: “We want to reassure you that we’re here to help.
“We’ll stay in your community and you’ll be able to talk to us in person. We’re finalising the details of where we’ll be based, and when, to support you with your banking, and we‘ll share the details locally once confirmed. We’ll be available to help you with things like day-to-day banking queries and helping you manage your money, though there won’t be access to cash at this site.
“We’ll also add the location and opening times on our website – just search ‘findbarclays’.”
At the moment, Barclays still has four branches in Glasgow and two in Edinburgh. It also has locations in Aberdeen, Dundee, Inverness, Ayr, Livingston, Stirling, Dunfermline, Kirkintilloch, St Andrews and Perth.
As well as this, almost all Barclays branches announced last month that all opening hours had been changed to 9.30am until 3pm, Monday to Friday, with the counters open full time.
