Ryan Murphy Reportedly Leaving Netflix For New Deal With Disney

The Writers Guild of America East canceled all of its scheduled picket lines for today, citing “the high heat index” on a website for the union’s ongoing strike against film and television producers.

Selome Hailu Cooper Koch and Nicholas Alexander Chavez have been cast in Season 2 of Ryan Murphy’s “Monster,” Variety has learned. They will play the Menéndez brothers in the Netflix anthology series, which told the story of Jeffrey Dahmer (Evan Peters) in Season 1. Netflix confirmed the subject and title of “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” in May. This will be the first of the two additional “Monster” installments that Netflix ordered after “Dahmer — The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” became the streamer’s No. 2 most popular English-language series of all time. (It was surpassed by “Wednesday” in December; then recently, Netflix began ranking viewership by estimated viewers instead of total hours viewed, putting “Dahmer” at No. 3 behind “Wednesday” and “Stranger Things” Season 4.)

David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan will play the coveted parts in James Gunn’s “Superman: Legacy.” The latest on-screen iteration of the iconic comic book hero will largely be a workplace origin story, Gunn said when he and fellow DC steward Peter Safran laid out their narrative plans in January. Corenswet, who broke out in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series “Hollywood,” will play cub reporter Kent at the fictional newspaper The Daily Planet. Brosnahan will be his coworker and co-lead. Gunn is directing the project from his own screenplay, based on the character created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.  Safran (“Aquaman,” the upcoming “Aquaman 2,” and The Conjuring franchise) will produce. The project is set for release on July 11, 2025.

Joe Otterson TV Reporter As WGA pickets continue to mobilize at the remaining TV shows in both New York and Los Angeles, at least one Ryan Murphy-produced show was the focus of striking writers’ efforts on Wednesday: “American Horror Story: Delicate.” The show is currently shooting on 52nd street in Manhattan, according to several WGA East member Twitter feeds — including one person who posted video of star Kim Kardashian entering the production. “It doesn’t appear that @KimKardashian is a friend of the labor movement. She just now crossed our picket line to work on Ryan Murphy’s @AHSFX Hamptons, shooting here on 52nd in NYC,” wrote “The Blacklist” exec producer and WGA strike captain T Cooper on his Twitter account.

Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.Murphy is known for his creation of hits from “Glee” to “9-1-1” and “American Horror Story” and serial-killer series “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” which became one of Netflix’s most-watched series of all time.He left Fox in 2018 to join Netflix in a five-year deal valued as high as $300 million to produce a new series and film exclusively for the online giant.Competition has been intensifying between streaming companies as they invest in original content and try to stand out in a crowded market and attract subscribers to their platforms.The TV show creator has been negotiating a new deal with Disney over the past year. Most of the details were ironed out before the writers’ strike began in May, the report added.The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the group that votes on the Golden Globes, celebrated Murphy’s contributions to television with its fourth Carol Burnett Award earlier this year.

Ryan Murphy looks to be heading back to Disney.

Ryan Murphy is racing back to his old stomping grounds, and in the process of re-joining longtime collaborator Dana Walden under a new overall deal at Disney. The decision to reunite with Walden — now the co-chairman of Disney Entertainment — comes five years after Murphy ankled 20th Century Fox TV for a rich deal at Netflix that was reportedly valued at the time at between $250 million-$300 million. That deal came right before Disney acquired 20th Century Fox and Walden, who at the time was Fox Television Group chairman-CEO. There had been speculation that Murphy and Walden might join forces as partners in their own production venture, before Murphy moved to Netflix and Walden shifted over to Disney.

“TV’s First $300 Million Man,” Murphy is responsible for creating hits such as “Dahmer: Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” and “The Watcher” for the streaming service.According to reports, Murphy has been negotiating his new deal for the past year, and most of the details were finished before the WGA strike started in May. People who have spoken out about the potential shift have not given their names as Murphy’s deal with Netflix is ongoing. In 2018 it was announced that Murphy had signed a five-year exclusive development deal with the streaming platform.
