Ryan Giggs told a jury that he and his former girlfriend 'clashed heads' as a 'tug of war' broke out following a row over their phones, as he denied deliberately headbutting her. The former Manchester United star spent his second day in the witness box at Manchester Crown Court on the eighth day of the trial.
The 48-year-old denies headbutting Kate Greville and elbowing her sister Emma during an altercation at Mr Giggs' home in Worsley. He has also pleaded not guilty to behaving in a controlling and coercive manner towards his ex-partner between August 2017 and November 2020.
Mr Giggs was questioned about events on November 1, 2020, when Ms Greville alleges that he headbutted her. He claimed that Ms Greville kicked him in the head 'six or seven' times. He said earlier that day he'd played golf with friends, and that evening he and Ms Greville were planning on spending the night at the Stock Exchange hotel in Manchester, which Mr Giggs part owns.

They were due to meet friends for a meal, the jury heard. Mr Giggs said a row developed between the couple, after Ms Greville told how a man had 'asked her out'. He said Ms Greville had told the man that he had a girlfriend. "I just said 'that's a strange thing to say, why didn't you say you had a boyfriend?'."
Mr Giggs said he went upstairs to their hotel room and left Ms Greville at the table. She arrived in the room shortly after and Mr Giggs claimed Ms Greville 'shoved her phone in my face and said 'who's this?'." Mr Giggs said Ms Greville was showing her an email from 2014. "She was angry, she wanted an explanation of who this woman is," he said.
Mr Giggs denied he'd been unfaithful
