Ruth Langsford has revealed it was an “absolute honour” to meet Dame Deborah James at Royal Ascot last week. The Loose Women panellist appeared on Lorraine and opened up about meeting the You, Me and the Big C podcaster at the racing event. “Obviously, I know you know her better than I do, it was amazing to see her there,” Ruth, 62, began.
Dame Deborah James, also known as Bowel Babe, was diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer five years ago and in May revealed she was starting hospice care at home. The 40-year-old was given “days” to live and she has “outlived ” the doctor’s diagnosis again, to go to her “favourite event.” Ruth gushed: “That smile she has, literally beams and shines, she had her hat on and she had her make up on. “I had quite a long chat with her after that photograph was taken and she is the most incredible woman isn’t she.” Lorraine agreed: "You go away and feel better for having me her." Since her diagnosis, the mother of two has campaigned for cancer research charities and the Royal Marsden hospital where she has received her treatment. In May, Deborah launched her own charity and legacy, the Bowel Babe Fund to raise money for vital research and cancer trials.
In less than 24 hours, the fund raised over £1 million and the total now is a staggering £6 million. Ruth praised Deborah’s “incredible” mindset to be able to be positive and in such a “high spirit” even though she knows that she is dying. Become an OK! VIP and see all our exclusives - for free!
