‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ & ‘We’re Here’s Shangela Gets Two Counts Dismissed In Production Assistant’s Lawsuit Alleging Rape At Wrap Party – Update

UPDATED, 10:30 AM: RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Shangela won a round in court Wednesday as a judge dismissed two of the claims in a man’s lawsuit accusing of the We’re Here co-host of rape in 2020 in Louisiana.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge William Fahey threw out gender violence and civil rights violations claims against Shangela after hearing arguments last week on a motion by Shangela’s attorneys to toss causes of action against their client for those claims along with sexual assault, false imprisonment and negligence.
Shangela’s lawyers had maintained that all five claims are barred by the statute of limitations in both California and in Louisiana.
The plaintiff’s attorneys were ordered to file an amended complaint by November 1. Read details about the suit — which also alleges sexual harassment and failure to prevent sexual harassment — below.
PREVIOUSLY, May 4: Shangela, an actor and former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant who also co-hoststhedocuseries We’re Here, is being sued by a former production assistant on the latter show who says he was raped by the star after a wrap party in February 2020. The actor denies the allegations.
In a detailed nine-page filing in Los Angeles Superior Court (read it here), Daniel McGarrigle alleges that the actor and drag performer (real name Darius Jeremy “DJ” Pierce) bought him multiple alcoholic drinks during the gathering at an L.A. restaurant/bar before asking him to return to Pierce’s hotel to help him pack for a flight the next morning. According to the lawsuit, McGarrigle — who says he “did not drink often” — began vomiting at the hotel, and Pierce suggested he lie down on the bed.
