After the screenings, the Platform Prize, an award of $20,000 CAD, is given to one film selected by an international jury.

His comfortable suburban college-town life and marriage to Babette (Greta Gerwig) is upended after a horrifying accident nearby creates an airborne toxic event of frightening and unknowable proportions.In a press release, New York Film Festival leaders described the film as “gratifyingly ambitious” and noted the story was long perceived as unfilmable. “In a tightrope walk of comedy and horror, Baumbach captures the essence of DeLillo’s cacophonous pop-philosophical nightmare on unbounded consumerism, ecological catastrophe and the American obsession with death.

Jesse Eisenberg is set to be honored at this year’s Sarajevo Film Festival with an Honorary Heart of Sarajevo Award. He’ll be presented with the award ahead of a special screening of Eisenberg’s directorial debut When You Finish Saving The World on August 15. 

The San Sebastián Film Festival has revealed the line-up for its latest edition, which is due to unfold from September 16-24.

“The Swimmers”, a movie about two sisters fleeing Syria, will be the opening night gala presentation at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Naman Ramachandran Sally El Hosaini’s refugee drama “The Swimmers” will open the 47th Toronto International Film Festival.The film follows the journey made by swimming sisters Yusra and Sarah Mardini who fled as refugees from war-torn Syria all the way to the 2016 Rio Olympics.In 2015, after their house was destroyed in the Syrian Civil War, the Mardini sisters decided to flee the country. They made their way to Lebanon and then Turkey, where they arranged to be smuggled into Greece by dinghy.

There is Steven Spielberg’s “The Fablemans,” Michael Grandage’s “My Policeman” with Harry Styles, Clement Virgo’s “Brother,” “Bros” written and starring Billy Eichner, Sanaa Lathan’s “On The Come Up,” and Gina Prince-Bythewood’s “The Woman King” with Viola Davis and Thuso Mbedu.
