He was 84 and had a long but unspecified illness, his sister said.Perranoski played in the major leagues from 1961-73 for the Dodgers, Minnesota Twins, Detroit Tigers, and California Angels.

The LAPD’s chief of police on Tuesday said that Los Angeles is on track to hit more than 300 homicides this year – a number not reached in more than a decade.
