Missing Los Angeles firefighter found dead in Mexico in 'tragic outcome,' officials say

A 20-year veteran of the Los Angeles Fire Department who was reported missing in August while in Mexico was killed by kidnappers, Mexican officials announced Wednesday. The LAFD said that human remains found in Mexico have been identified as 48-year-old veteran firefighter and paramedic Francisco Aguilar.  "This is a tragic outcome to a case we were hoping would end differently," Los Angeles Fire Chief Ralph Terrazas said in a statement.

LAPD chief says Los Angeles on track to surpass 300 homicides, highest in over a decade

The LAPD’s chief of police on Tuesday said that Los Angeles is on track to hit more than 300 homicides this year – a number not reached in more than a decade. LA Police Chief Michael Moore said as of Saturday, the city has reported 266 homicides.That figure has already surpassed the total number of homicides for 2018 which saw 260 homicides, and 2019 which saw 253 killings, the Los Angeles Times reported.
