Chris Willman Music WriterThe Hollywood Bowl’s 2022 summer season will include a three-night stand by Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees Duran Duran, a fireworks-laden 4th of July engagement by the comedy/bluegrass team of Steve Martin and Martin Short, a Loggins & Messina reunion, a fully staged production of Cyndi Lauper’s Broadway musical “Kinky Boots” and a salute to Frank Sinatra and Peggy Lee that will feature Billie Eilish and Debbie Harry, among others.Artists with shows on the summer agenda include Ricky Martin, Pentatonix, Sheryl Crow, Diana Ross, CHVRCHES, John Fogerty, A-ha, Grace Jones, John Fogerty, UB40, A.R. Rahman, Lang Lang, Pink Martini, the Gipsy Kings, Boyz II Men and TLC.As always, the LA Philharmonic may be the biggest star on the lineup, with 34 shows scheduled, 10 of which will be under the direction of Gustavo Dudamel.

Chris Willman Music WriterAnyone who’s had a longtime preset for a rock or pop oldies station is well aware of the generational shift: “Oldies” now almost entirely means the late ’70s and especially 1980s and ’90s, with rarely a pre-1970 tune to be found that isn’t the Beatles. Even given the recurring resurgence of the Fab Four, you’re still more likely to hear “Hungry Like the Wolf,” “Here Comes the Rain Again” or even “Hey Ya” than “Hey Jude” on an oldies station.So maybe it should be no surprise that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should be subject to the same gravitational forces, more interested in artists that still have active careers, or as active as the 25-years-since-first-commercial-recording eligibility rule allows, rather than the dearly departed or semi-retired. Mind you, early-rock wild cards could still be found regularly sneaking onto the ballot until a decade or so ago… only to usually be rejected by the wider contingent of voters in favor of artists who still walk and rock among us.

Eminem, Kate Bush, Beck, Eurythmics, Duran Duran, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Rage Against The Machine, A Tribe Called Quest, Carly Simon, Judas Priest, Fela Kuti, New York Dolls, Dionne Warwick, MC5, DEVO and Pat Benatar have made the nominees list.A body of more than 1,000 artists, industry members and historians will help decide which five acts out of the 17 will progress into the final round of induction consideration. Fans also have the chance to contribute to the selection process by voting every day here or at the museum in Cleveland, Ohio.Five acts will then be tallied among the other ballots to ultimately decide the Class of 2022.This year marks the first time that Eminem has become eligible for a nomination.

"Taking into consideration the length of their career, musical influence and body of work among other factors, inductees are chosen via ballots sent to more than 1,000 artists, historians and members of the music industry.

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation announced the list of artists nominated for induction in 2022.Among the 17 nominees, this marks the first time on the ballot for seven artists, including Beck, Eminem, Duran Duran, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Carly Simon, and A Tribe Called Quest.This is also the first year that Eminem is actually eligible to be nominated. To be eligible for induction, an artist must have released their first commercial recording a minimum of 25 years earlier.
