As we officially move into autumn, we’re permanently on the lookout for some must-have pieces to add to our wardrobes that will see us through the colder months. Although autumn and winter dressing is all about being practical, we’re not about to give up on looking stylish either, which is why we’re always looking for those special items that manage to combine the two.
When we spied Gucci’s Women’s Boots with Horsebit, £1010 here, we were obsessed with how well they managed to be both practical and chic, but at more than £1000 they were swiftly moved to the fantasy wishlist rather than our more realistic one. However, never one to let a premium price tag stand in the way, we’ve hunted high and low and found a pretty perfect affordable alternative from high street faves River Island.
The Black Chain Detail Ankle Boots, £45 here, have a similar look to the luxury version, but with a more practical lower heel that makes them perfect for donning in the rainy weather. Just like the Gucci pair, the boots have a gold horse bit style chain detail across the front of the boots, with a tall ankle length shaft and a seamed panel up the front.
Both pairs also have an inside zip that makes them easy to pull on and off. However, the River Island boots also have a faux croc embossed panel at the back, and rather than the much higher chunky heel of the designer pair, they have a lower block heel that makes them more comfortable for wearing all day long no matter what the weather.
