Despite delivering a jaw-dropping, sell-out performance during last night's halftime 2023 Super Bowl, pop megastar Rihanna will not receive any payment for her concert according to decades-old rules. The Barbadian singer, 34, kicked off the live performance at Sunday night's 2023 Super Bowl suspended high above the stadium and dressed in all red, performing a medley of her chart-topping hits. During what was her first performance at the eagerly-anticipated American football event - her first in seven years - the Umbrella hitmaker made the shock announcement that she's pregnant with her second child.
Rihanna had previously turned down the opportunity to perform at the much-loved sporting event, revealing last year that she agreed to get on board for the 2023 edition. And though fans might expect the star to be receiving a pretty penny for her performance, according to the NFL policy, halftime singers are not subject to any form of financial compensation for the gig. Although the league covers all costs related to the production of the halftime show, including travel expenses, NFL spokesperson Joanna Hunter told Forbes in 2016 that this doesn't include paying the singers.
"We do not pay the artists. We cover expenses and production costs," she told the US publication. Last night saw Rihanna follow in the footsteps of chart-topping musical legends Coldplay, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, The Rolling Stones, Bruno Mars, U2, Jennifer Lopez and Shakira, all of whom are amongst those who have performed at the halftime point.

Todd Spangler NY Digital Editor Tubi pulled a FAST one on Super Bowl viewers on Sunday night. Tubi, the free, ad-supported streaming television (FAST), ran a clever trompe l’oeil ad that made it look as if viewers’ TVs were changing the channel right in the middle of the climactic end of the Eagles-Chiefs game. The 15-second spot, which ran in the fourth quarter of Fox’s Super Bowl LVII telecast, starts by throwing back to the game’s announcing duo of Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen. (Tubi is owned by Fox Corp.) As Burkhardt and Olsen banter in generalities about the game, an unseen hand pulls up a Tubi on-demand menu on the TV — and after a couple of audible blips, selects “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” the 2005 movie starring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, before the Tubi logo flashes on the screen.
