Retired nurse reveals the secret to her age after reaching 102nd birthday

A Cheadle care home resident celebrated her birthday in an unforgettable way after hitting 102 years old earlier this month.
Doris Robins, who currently resides at Abney Court, owned by Care UK, enjoyed her milestone birthday with family and The Stockport Sea Cadets joining the party too.
The Abney Court team helped organise the meeting as well as a birthday cake and gifts for Doris which included a card from the Woman’s Royal Navy services.

It was a celebration for Doris to remember with her and the sea cadets exchanging stories with both sets of people who have gone through extraordinary experiences.
Doris Robins was born in 1921 and grew up in Tottenham, North London before moving to Leigh-On-Sea and Didsbury when she was growing up. Doris married at the age of 18 when she met her husband George Robins and had four children together: Frances, Nichola, Mandy and Chris.
Doris had spent time in the Navy when he was younger and became a nursery nurse at the end of the Second World War before ultimately retiring at the age of 62. Doris moved into Abney Court eight years ago and thought it was ‘the best birthday’ making it one to remember for her.
She said: “It was the best birthday, I loved having the sea cadets visit me – they marched in and saluted me. The gifts I received from them were lovely and they also gave me a Navy hat which I will treasure.”
She continued revealing the secret to reaching such an impressive age and having a happy life: “Do as many things as you can in a day – keep active and don’t waste the day!”
