Residents tried desperately to save an 80-year-old man after he was found lying in the street.
Emergency services were called to Bishopbriggs at around 12.20am on Monday, June 13, after reports of an unresponsive man being found on Auchinairn Road.
It is understood a woman driving along the road noticed the man lying on the footpath and alerted emergency services.
Despite the efforts of paramedics and locals who did their best to help with CPR, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A local couple, who did not wish to be named, said: “He looked like he was in his 70s.
“A few of the local resident tried to help with CPR but the paramedic was soon in control of the situation.
“They then covered him with a sheet and the ambulance stayed there until around 4am, I think they were waiting for the private ambulance to take the body away.”
A forensics tent has since been pitched on the main road, close to where the body of the man was initially found.
Earlier in the day a large police presence was on the scene, with the footpath remaining cordoned off.
However, the majority of police left the scene just before 2pm, leaving just the tent and a few officers on the street.
Officers were seen in the area carrying out door-to-door inquiries and collecting any local CCTV footage.
Police have confirmed that the death is currently being treated as "unexplained" and that they are continuing to investigate.
