Rust assistant director Dave Halls has broken his silence on the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.Halls handed actor and producer Alec Baldwin the weapon that killed the 42-year-old cinematographer on the film’s set in Santa Fe, New Mexico, shouting “cold gun” to indicate it was safe.Hutchins died in the accidental shooting, while the film’s director Joel Souza was injured.

Rust director Joel Souza, who was injured and hospitalized from a gunshot wound on the set of Alec Baldwin’s Rust has issued a statement to Deadline in the wake of the tragic event which took the film’s cinematographer’s life, Halyna Hutchins.

The term indicated the gun does not contain any “live” rounds, including blanks, and was safe to use around nearby crew.According to the affidavit signed by Detective Joel Cano, the assistant director was unaware that the prop gun contained live rounds when he handed it to Baldwin.

The New York Times Friday afternoon that Souza had been released, and Frances Fisher, one of the stars of “Rust,” also tweeted Friday that she had spoken with Souza and learned he had been released. A representative for the film did not immediately return TheWrap’s request for comment.
