The Real Housewives is a cultural phenomenon.
The long-running Bravo reality TV franchise kicked off in Orange County, and has since spread around the country – and the world – showcasing lavish lifestyles and fiery friendships for well over a decade.
Over time, there’s been plenty of speculation about which city the Real Housewives might be launching in next. Bravo boss Andy Cohen has gotten candid over the years about which towns missed the mark.
“They’re usually aspirational. They have their own identity. You know, it’s funny, they’re the same kind of format, if you want to call it a ‘format,’ but they all feel completely different, like really different ecosystems in every city. And so, that’s really important, too,” he explained on Watch What Happens Live.
“You look for a group of friends. Producers bring in casting people, and they find women who are on the society pages and belong to country clubs. ‘Who are your friends, and how do you know each other?’ In the end, you kind of wind up with a reel of maybe 10 women who have some connections with each other. There’s a little diagram that you look at.”
“We’ve cast in some cities that we haven’t wound up pursuing,” he added, going on to reveal which cities didn’t work out: “there have been a lot of places that we’ve tried but just didn’t work.”

Blumhouse Television is also attached. “Most Talkative” centers a fictionalized 13-year-old Cohen coming of age in 1980s St Louis. He’s gay, loves the Cardinals, his bar mitzvah tutor is a stoner and his soap opera-fueled imagination makes him both the life of the party and the source of endless drama. The series will follow young Cohen’s journey not fitting into any one box and figuring out how to build his own. Cohen published his memoir in 2012 via Macmillan Publishers’ St. Martin’s Press. He is best known for hosting Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live” and executive producing the “Real Housewives” franchise for the network.
