Hillary Clinton on Kim Kardashian’s Criminal Justice Efforts: ‘Unlike Anything You’ve Ever Seen’ (Exclusive)

Hillary Clinton is singing the praises of Kim Kardashian. The former Secretary of State and host of the docuseries has nothing but appreciation for the reality star's criminal justice reform efforts.Hillary and daughter Chelsea Clinton spoke with ET's Deidre Behar at Variety's Power of Women gala in Los Angeles on Wednesday, and the pair opened up on which of the many celebs they interviewed — as part of their Apple TV+ docuseries — impressed and impacted them the most.«Kim Kardashian was unlike anything you've ever seen,» Hillary said in awe. «Because she is serious about trying to help people have been been incarcerated unfairly, for too long.»Kim's appearance on Gutsy made headline in August when a preview clip revealed that the reality star and law student actually bested Hillary in a legal pop quiz show-down.Another guest who wowed the famous mother and daughter was Megan Thee Stallion."[She] was so calm and impressive as we were painting with her," Hillary recalled.«And she also had a lot more talented than we did, which surprised no one,» Chelsea added with a laugh. While the Clintons have been working together on, it seems that Chelsea isn't planning on following in her mother's footsteps when it comes to potential political ambitions.«I think all of us right now are political, especially if you're a woman in America, when we have politicians deciding what's best for our bodies instead of we knowing what's best for ourselves,» She shared.

Hillary Clinton Slams ‘Horrific’ Iran Regime: They’re Only in Power ‘Because They Oppress Women’

Variety‘s Power of Women dinner on Wednesday, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton spoke, and the former secretary of state took the Iranian government to task. “I could not stand up here tonight without also recognizing the brave women in Iran who are standing up for their rights, their freedom against a horrific regime who stays in power in large measure because they oppress women,” Clinton said. “And I could not stand here without thinking about the women in Afghanistan who are being deprived of education, or the women on the front lines in Ukraine who are trying to defend their country against the barbarity of Putin’s invasion.” “So we have a lot of work to do,” she continued. “It’s work in our own country to keep our progress going and not let the clock be turned back, and it’s also caring about the rest of the world.”

Laura Poitras Slams TIFF, Venice for Supporting Clinton ‘Whitewashing’

Adam Benzine Guest Contributor Oscar-winning documentarian Laura Poitras slammed the heads of the Venice and Toronto film festivals for “engaging in a kind of whitewashing” by programming glossy documentaries from the Clinton family. Her comments come as TIFF this week hosted the Canadian premiere of Poitras’s “All the Beauty and the Bloodshed,” a documentary about the artist and activist Nan Goldin, and just days after the film won Venice’s top prize, the Golden Lion. It is the rare doc to land slots at the superfecta of Venice, Telluride, Toronto and New York, and Poitras said she thought “long and hard” about whether or not to voice criticism at the same venues feting her latest work. Nevertheless, she said, “journalists need to ask hard questions.”

Hillary Clinton Reflects on Meeting Queen Elizabeth II: ‘One of the Highlights of My Time in Public Service’

Jennifer Maas TV Business Writer Hillary Clinton remembered Queen Elizabeth II as “a woman who served with such honor and distinction” on Thursday, just hours after news broke of the longtime monarch’s death. “We lost a woman who served with such honor and distinction from literally the time she was a child, until two days ago when she received the new prime minister,” Clinton told Variety at the New York premiere of “Gutsy,” her and daughter Chelsea Clinton’s new Apple TV+ docuseries. “And I was privileged to meet her and spend time with her. Probably one of the highlights of my time in public service was when I was secretary of state, staying in Buckingham Palace and talking with her about her gardens, which were a great love of hers, and actually walking around the gardens with her gardener and going to a white-tie dinner in the grand dining room. I had many really pleasant and wonderful conversations. She loved to ask questions, she was so lively and she’ll be missed.”

Hillary and Chelsea Clinton’s ‘Gutsy’ Fails to Live Up to Its Name: TV Review

Caroline Framke Chief TV Critic In the months after Donald Trump became president and a flush of liberal rage manifested in impassioned Women’s Marches across the country, Hillary Clinton took a sizeable step back from public life. Having been a flashpoint of both controversy and sympathy for her entire adult life, Clinton found herself having to forge a new kind of identity — one that wouldn’t be tied to any kind of political office, but could still use support from those Democrats whose first reaction to Trump’s inauguration was to crochet pink “pussyhats” and march as a unified pink wave of righteous fury. “Gutsy,” Clinton’s new and self-consciously #feminist show produced with her daughter, Chelsea, helps the former candidate do exactly that, tapping everyone from Gloria Steinem to Megan Thee Stallion to explore what it means to be a “gutsy” woman. But watching the show’s eight curated episodes, all of which premiere September 9 on Apple TV+, feels like stepping back in feminism to Clinton’s campaign selling “NASTY WOMAN” T-shirts or Women’s March protesters lifting “IF HILLARY HAD BEEN ELECTED, WE’D BE AT BRUNCH RIGHT NOW” signs. Even with titles like “Gutsy Women Refuse Hate” and “Gutsy Women Have Rebel Hearts,” “Gutsy” bears the appearance of taking on The Hard Questions without doing much to move its conversations forward. Determined to find a silver lining in every cloud, and less furious with the world than annoyed at being misconceived, the Clintons spend much of their time in this series seeking out people who feel the same rather than challenging their own worldviews — or their likely viewers’ — at all.
