Range Signs Masha Ko, Director Of Sundance Genre Short ‘The Looming’

It’s January and whilst most are focused on awards season being in full swing, it is also the start of festival season. Right now the fortieth edition of Sundance is underway, and while THN can’t be there in person, we will be bringing you a round up of what we have been able to access virtually. First up for review is the rather eccentric Krazy House from Dutch duo Steffan Haars and Flip Van der Kuli.Krazy House screens as part of the Midnight strand of programming, which embraces films with an affinity for the macabre or weird.

Earlier this week, “House Of The Dragon” star Milly Alcock landed the role of Supergirl in James Gunn and Peter Safran‘s new and improved DCU reboot. And the actress will star in a standalone film based around the superhero, which …still lacks a director? Strange stuff for the rebooted franchise to do according to “Argylle” director Matthew Vaughn, who’s a fan of Alcock’s but not of Gunn and Safran casting her so early into a film’s development.

While “Dune: Part Two” does not arrive until March 1—and is said to be a long 2 hours and 45 minutes—people are still asking what’s next and if “Dune: Messiah” could be a “Dune: Part Three.” Well, in a new interview with Fandango, when asked if they’d be interested in doing more, Zendaya, seemingly speaking for the assembled cast, said yes if director Denis Villeneuve is on board.

It starts innocuously enough. “Krazy House,” the English-language debut of Dutch filmmakers Steffen Haars and Flip van der Kuil, launches with a ‘90s family sitcom parody that ribs their cheese and cringe.

Siddhant Adlakha Modeled on a late-’80s/early-’90s American family sitcom — which soon transitions to a midnight splatterfest — the tongue-in-cheek Dutch production “Krazy House” has all the transgressive stylings of a 15 year-old’s Reddit post on an atheism forum in 2010. Directors Steffen Haars and Flip van der Kuil offer ideas of subversion that feel both long-outdated in concept and completely dull in execution, to the point that merely describing the film feels irresponsible, lest its premise accidentally lure curious viewers to the cinema.

Leo Barraclough International Features Editor September Film has acquired all rights for Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg for “In the Land of Brothers,” which has its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition section. The film is written and directed by Iranian filmmakers Raha Amirfazli and Alireza Ghasemi. Alpha Violet is handling world sales.

Chilean filmmaker Felipe Gálvez’s “The Settlers” is an incredible film by any measure. Still, it’s even more astonishing to consider when you see it as his directorial debut, which he wrote as well, with Antonia Girardi in collaboration with Mariano Llinás.
