A raging Scots woman bit the cop who arrested her for throwing a trifle during a Christmas work’s party at a plush hotel.
Lianne Bell flung the dessert along with other food, including sausage rolls, after kicking off at the four-star Grosvenor Hotel in Edinburgh.
Police were called to the West End landmark and found the thrown food all over the floor.
Bell, 40, sank her teeth into the hand of a female constable who was trying to detain her following the incident.
She appeared at the city’s sheriff court on Monday and admitted assault, obstructing officers, and acting in threatening or abusive manner.
Fiscal depute Christine Brownlie said the festive party took place on December 23 and Bell was in attendance.
Ms Brownlie said it was about 2.30pm when Bell began remonstrating with a staff member about her phone being stolen.
Other hotel staff tried to intervene, the court heard, to “calm the situation” but Bell became “aggressive” at their attempts to assist her.
Ms Browlie said: “There was food at the party. The accused has begun to throw food in the hotel foyer, which included a trifle. It made a mess on the floor.
The court heard Bell left the foyer and police later arrived in Grosvenor Street where the hotel is located.
Ms Brownlie said officers observed the trifle and sausage rolls on the floor and Bell was escorted from the building.
She said Bell tried to “pull away from the officers” and bit Pc Claire Mitchell to the right hand.
Officers tried to place Bell in their van, the court was told, but she kicked out to prevent the doors being closed.
The prosecutor said Bell tried to bite Pc Robert Thomson and was restrained.
Sheriff Peter McCormack deferred sentence on Bell, of Dunfermline, Fife, until next month for reports.
