The Queen has reportedly withdrawn from the opening ceremony of the iconic Commonwealth Games as she continues to suffer from difficulties with her mobility. According to the Mirror, her eldest son and the future king, Prince Charles, 73, will be standing in for her at the event. The show takes place in Birmingham on July 28, and it will be another event the 96 year old monarch has pulled out of in recent months, including some parts of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Prince Edward, Princess Anne, and other senior royals are also reportedly scheduled to appear at the opening.
Buckingham Palace has been approached for comment. The news comes as Her Majesty has been struggling with "episodic mobility problems," according to a royal source. The source told the publication that while the Queen was thrilled to be able to take part in the festivities and annual celebration of her official birthday at Trooping the Colour on Thursday 2 June, it unfortunately put strain on her body.
As a result, the monarch withdrew from attending her Thanksgiving Service at St Paul's Cathedral, which took place the following day. “Her Majesty enjoyed today immensely but episodic mobility issues were experienced during the course of the day," the source said. “A regrettable but sensible decision based on the journey, length of time involved and the physical demands a service at St Paul’s inevitably involve.
“It was always Her Majesty’s hope that she would attend rather than a firm commitment," they added. For the latest showbiz reports and breaking news visit http://www.ok.co.uk/celebrity-news.
