When our beloved pooches are born, they appear in litters and often look similar to one another.
While this leads us to believe that the chances of them being identical twins is relatively high, the reality is anything but that.
Experts have stated that pups sharing a placenta can lead to fewer nutrients for each animal - meaning that it is rarer than some of us believe.
The Mirror spoke with canine behaviourist Adem Fehmi, who works with natural dog food brand Barking Heads, to get his thoughts on identical puppies.
He described the chances of identical twins in dogs to be “incredibly rare”.
Adem also explained the difference between fraternal twins and identical twins.
Fraternal twins are "born of the same mother but developed from an individual egg each, fertilised by a single sperm each" - so technically, all puppies in a litter are considered fraternal.
Genetically identical twins "must have developed from one egg that has split and become two embryos" - just like humans.

Royally snubbed? Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s return to the U.K. for Queen Elizabeth II‘s Platinum Jubilee may not have gone how they hoped, according to royal expert Christopher Andersen.
Although Prince Harry has been smiling for pictures during Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee, royal expert Neil Sean doesn't believe it's genuine. Sean shared with Fox News Digital that to him Harry looked "deeply unhappy" while attending the Service of Thanksgiving. Sean was in attendance at the Platinum Jubilee event. Amber Heard allegedly has Jason Momoa to thank for keeping her role in, according to industry expert Kathryn Arnold.Arnold testified in court on Monday during day 20 of Johnny Depp's lawsuit against his ex-wife, where she claimed that Heard's role had been diminished in the second movie, and testified that this usually wouldn't be the case if an actress was a success in the first film. Heard was paid $1 million for the first film, and was set to be paid $2 million for the second. However, after Depp's lawyer, Adam Waldman, called Heard's claims of abuse a «hoax,» Arnold claims that Heard suffered significant career damage.Arnold further claims that Heard's salary for the second movie could have been higher if not for the statements made by Waldman, and she has not been involved in the promotion for the new film — which ultimately hurts her career as well.Arnold claims that Momoa was able to renegotiate his salary for the second film to $15 million, up from $3 million which he got for the first, but Heard never got a similar opportunity for that sort of financial bump.
