It’s been 10 months since Professor Green revealed on social media that he nearly died after suffering a seizure last year.
The rapper, whose real name is Stephen Manderson, said he fell “face down” into steel and concrete after suffering a grand mal seizure – which causes a loss of consciousness and violent muscle contractions – while on his own at home.
Three years earlier, he fractured three vertebrae in his neck and had to cancel his UK tour after suffering his first seizure. He had a second one after he arrived at the hospital.
He said at the time: “There is no obvious cause.
There is one theory – I’ve run myself into the ground doing way too much, over-stretching myself as per usual and it’s finally caught up on me.” Fortunately, he has recovered but he tells us that the “scary” incident was a sign to start taking better care of his health. “My therapist said to me before I had the seizure that, just by a law of averages, most of the scary things that are going to happen in my life have already happened.
But that incident was enough to make anyone think about taking better care of themselves,” he exclusively tells us. In 2021, Professor Green became a dad to son Slimane with his fiancé Karima McAdams.
Smiling, he describes his boy as “sensitive” and “a chatterbox”. Now, as the chart-topper – who has been open about suffering bouts of depression throughout his life – approaches his 40th birthday next month, he reflects on how his life has changed since becoming a parent and why he would like more children, plus he reveals his top tip to alleviate stress… Hi Professor Green! How are you since the seizure? It was scary because it happened at a moment when no one else was home, outside, and I smashed my head into steel
