President Barack Obama & Michelle Obama To Headline YouTube’s ‘Dear Class Of 2020’ Virtual Commencement Event

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, high school students have been unable to attend traditional proms due to national stay-at-home orders and bans on large gatherings. But MTV made celebration possible — at least virtually — by airing a dance Prom-athon for the class of 2020 onFriday night.

While we're all stuck at home on quarantine mode due to the coronavirus pandemic, Michelle Obama has decided to gift students graduating this year a special virtual graduation ceremony. Dear Class of 2020 will be hosted by the former First Lady and will include commencement speeches by her, Barack Obama, BTS and Lady Gaga amongst several others. As per Variety, the star power has doubled up now with the inclusion of Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lopez, Demi Lovato and more.

YouTube's virtual commencement ceremony,, is amping up the star power for it's already jam-packed graduation event.

Traditional graduation ceremonies throughout the world have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with festivities being held online.

As many of you know, grad season has been heavily affected due to the current ongoing pandemic. Nonetheless, many public figures have been using their platforms to give uplifting words to the graduating class of 2020 as they continue to move on to the next phases within their lives.

Reading romance! Michelle Obama and Barack Obama teamed up on Thursday, May 14, as guests on Chicago Public Library’s “Live from the Library” Storytime sessions.

Former US president Barack Obama, 58, and Former First Lady Michelle Obama, 56, posted a clip of themselves reading a kid’s book to give parents across the country “a break” from home schooling their children. The couple read The Word Collector by Peter H. Reynolds and emphasized the importance of libraries. “It’s a fun book that vividly illustrates the transformative power of words, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did,” Barack said of the kid’s book.

Especially for students, who have to rely on online classes, are facing difficulties in trying to cope amidst the harsh reality that's staring right at us. Michelle Obama decided to rectify that in her own way as she partnered with YouTube, through her Higher Initiative, to host a special virtual graduation ceremony, Dear Class of 2020.

YouTube on Tuesday announced Dear Class of 2020, a virtual commencement celebration honoring high school and college seniors whose graduation ceremonies were canceled due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. The multi-hour livestream event, set to premiere June 6 on YouTube, will bring together inspirational leaders, stars and creators.

Former President Barack Obama will deliver a televised prime-time commencement address for the high school Class of 2020 during an hour-long event that will also feature LeBron James, Malala Yousafzai and Ben Platt, among others.
