A police officer has died after his patrol vehicle crashed on the M6 near Carlisle in Cumbria.
The 47-year-old, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 2pm on Sunday.
The collision took place on the southbound side of the motorway between Junctions 44 and 43 and the police car was the only vehicle involved.
Today, his policing colleagues have paid tribute to the officer, who worked for Cumbria Constabulary's Mobile Support Group.
