A man who was arrested after a 67-year-old woman was dragged to the floor in a terrifying mugging has been bailed pending further investigation, police have confirmed.
The victim was on Clayton Hall Road in Clayton at around 12.55pm last Friday (February 9) when a 'male suspect' approached her from behind. Police said he dragged her to the floor in the street before snatching her handbag.
He then made off from the scene towards Stanton Street. The woman was rushed to hospital with leg and shoulder injuries and will now need surgery.

Yesterday (Tuesday), police said a 38-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of theft. In an update issued this morning, a force spokesperson said he has since been bailed pending further investigation.
Officers previously shared an appeal for help to track down a man. They are continuing to appeal for anyone in the local community with information on the incident to come forward.
Detective Sergeant Terina Arthern of GMP’s City of Manchester North district said: "We’d like to firstly thank the public for their assistance in sharing the appeal for information. With the information provided from the local community we have successfully made an arrest and he will remain in custody for further questioning.
"Every bit of information really counts and is continuing to help us build a clearer picture to ensure we secure justice for the victim of this crime. We are continuing to support her and her family at this time and she is currently awaiting surgery for the injuries she sustained during this incident.
