Police have issued an appeal for witnesses to come forward after a crash in Stockport town centre left an elderly pedestrian with ‘serious injuries’.
Emergency services raced to the scene near the Stockport Air Raid Shelters at 10am yesterday (May 31). The air ambulance was spotted landing nearby.
A police cordon remained in place until just after 3:30pm and unconfirmed reports surfaced that an elderly man had been struck by a car.

A Volkswagen car was seen being loaded onto a low-loading recovery truck inside the cordon shortly before it was lifted.
In an update today, Greater Manchester Police confirmed a 76-year-old pedestrian was taken to hospital with ‘serious injuries’ following the crash.
Officers now want to speak to anyone with information or dash cam footage of the crash.
A post by Greater Manchester Police on X said: “Police appeal after elderly man seriously injured on Great Underbank, Stockport.
“At 10am on 31/5/24 we were called to a collision between a car & pedestrian. A 76-year-old was taken to hospital. Any info or dash cam footage? Call 0161 856 4741 quoting 886 of 31/5/24.”
