Fashion designer to the stars Peter Hidalgo has died at the age of 53. Hidalgo was said to have passed away at a homeless shelter on January 17 in New York City. His publicist Marion Greenberg confirmed the sad news.
A cause of death has not yet been revealed. According to WWD reports, Peter's former employer Miguel Adrover revealed that he had been living in a homeless shelter as he awaited qualifying for subsidized housing. "I know he was not feeling well.
It was really hard to get in touch with him," Miguel told the publication. He added: "I would tell him all the time, 'Peter, love, you should move back to Santo Domingo, because you have your family.' "Also, you know how New York is. If you don't have money, it is really a hard city to survive.
He was not young either. I was devastated." Hidalgo was a co-winner of the Fashion Group International's "Rising Star" award for womenswear in 2010. Primarily working with private clients, he dressed Kanye West as well as Nicki Minaj for her opening performance of the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2014.
He also dressed Usher for the 2011 MTV Music Video awards. Back in 2019, he collaborated with artist David Salle and S IF magazine to design cocktail dresses screen-printed with Salle’s art. Actress Scarlett Johansson modelled the dresses on three different AS IF covers.
