Dame Deborah James’ posthumously published book has debuted at number one in the UK. How To Live When You Could Be Dead sold 40,878 copies following its release on Thursday last week, according to Nielsen BookScan’s Total Consumer Market.The book, completed in the podcast host and former deputy headteacher’s final weeks, has also become the bestselling non-fiction debut of 2022 so far.

As the world edges closer to marking the one year anniversary since Dame Deborah James tragically lost her battle with bowel cancer, her mother Heather has now given her blessing to Deborah’s husband to find love again in the wake of her passing. The self-proclaimed Bowelbabe sadly passed away in June 2022, after raising millions of pounds to fund Cancer Research UK via her Bowelbabe fund. The star, who was best known for her BBC Radio show You, Me and the Big C, bravely battled against aggressive bowel cancer for five years before sadly losing her fight with the disease.

The husband of Dame Deborah James said she died in “one of the best ways you could have hoped to die with this terrible disease”, in his first broadcast interview since her tragic passing.  Dame Deborah, known by her social media handle Bowelbabe and as the presenter of the You, Me And The Big C podcast, died last June at the age of 40 after being diagnosed with bowel cancer five years previously. In a pre-recorded interview shared on BBC Breakfast, her husband Sebastien Bowen spoke of her death publicly for the first time.  He said: “I think she died in probably one of the best ways that you could have hoped to die with this terrible disease.
