Deborah James reportedly reconciled with her husband just one month before her cancer diagnosis in 2016.The broadcaster and campaigner sadly died on Tuesday 28 June after her five year battle with bowel cancer.Throughout her battle, Deborah used her platforms to raise awareness and raise money, resulting in her raising over £6million for her bowel cancer fundraiser in May. Whilst the mother-of-two was very vocal about her family's support, she did reveal in 2020 that her and her husband Sebastien Bowen were on the brink of divorce before they reconciled a month before her diagnosis.
Speaking to Daily Mail, she said: "It was a classic case of our marriage coming last." Whilst Deborah was working as a Deputy Headteacher at the time, Sebastien was and still is a city banker. In 2015, Sebastien moved out of the home and they both began seeing other people.The even hired divorce lawyers.
Overcoming their issues, Deborah and Sebastien began having drinks and dinner again and soon rekindled their relationship in November 2021.This was just a month before Deborah received her bowel cancer diagnosis. Opening up about cancer and her relationship, she said: "One of the good things about cancer is it makes you reassess your relationship.
It's crunch time. "You think, 'Do I really want to be with this person?' And if you don't, then it's, 'Bye!' as life really is short." She added: "But cancer can also make you realise how special your connection is, and that's where we are: in a good place." Deborah and Sebastien got married in 2008 and share son Hugo, 14, and daughter, Eloise, 12.
