Amazon Prime Video’s latest twisty thriller will intrigue viewers – and have them scratching their heads, according to star Peter Serafinowicz. “I don’t know how to explain the show. It’s pretty nuts!” exclaims Peter, who plays Detective Chief Inspector Danny in the series.
Witty, nimble, sharply dressed, and light on its feet, Guy Ritchie’s dexterous “The Gentlemen” is a largely surprising delight (mostly, anyhow)—an entertaining crime comedy with a snap, crackle, and pop that’s far superior to the more self-enamored 2019 film of the same name whence it came. The connections to the original are tenuous at best, nothing more than the cannabis and drug empires milieus in the U.K.

South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have confirmed that their deep fake film about Donald Trump is currently “on hold”.Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, the pair revealed that film – titled Deep Fake: The Movie – was a day away from starting production, only to be halted by the pandemic.Parker and Stone had previously worked with Peter Serafinowicz on the viral web series Sassy Justice, which used deepfake technology to project the faces of celebrities and politicians onto fictional characters. Some of the notable figures included Trump, Mark Zuckerberg and Jared Kushner. This web series, however, was just the beginning of Parker and Stone’s foray into deepfake technology.“Not a lot of people know that we were a day away from starting production on the first feature movie we had done since Team America: World Police,” said Parker.“We were going to start shooting on the day that the pandemic shut everything down.
Zack Sharf “South Park” creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker went viral during the pandemic thanks to their surprise deepfake video, “Sassy Justice,” which has earned over 2 million views on YouTube since its October 2020 debut. The 14-minute short finds a deepfake Donald Trump, voiced by Peter Serafinowicz, reporting news out of Cheyenne, Wyoming under the eponymous moniker. The project was the first bit of content to come out of Deep Voodoo, Stone and Parker’s deepfake production studio.Stone and Parker said at the time that “Sassy Justice” came about because “we just wanted to make fun of [deepfakes] because it makes it less scary,” but it turns out the project had its roots in a full-length Donald Trump deepfake movie that Parker and Stone were working on and then scrapped because of the pandemic.
Jem Aswad Senior Music EditorIt took a village to create Kendrick Lamar’s mind-melting new video for his song “The Heart Part 5,” which on the surface is just him performing in front of a red backdrop until you realize that his face deepfakes into those of OJ Simpson, Jussie Smollett, Nipsey Hussle, Kobe Bryant and Kanye West (who, ironically, himself dropped a video the same day using deepfake technology). While the video was directed and executive produced by Lamar and longtime collaborator Dave Free and features a host of creative collaborators (listed below), the deep fake is credited to Deep Voodoo, a studio launched by “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone to specialize in the technology — and the “The Heart Part 5” video appears to be the first fruit of a partnership between Lamar’s PGLang company and the “South Park” founders’ Park County banner to produce a new feature film for Paramount Pictures. (While Lamar, Parker, Stone and reps for PG Lang and Deep Voodoo all declined Variety’s requests for an interview about.) The Deep Voodoo studio — the name of which almost certainly was chosen in part for its phonic similarity to the term “deep doodoo” — made its first major splash late in 2020 with “Sassy Justice,” a spoof of a television investigative report on deep fakes done in collaboration with actor Peter Serafinowicz.
notes that the face shifts are timed to specific lyrics, such as West’s at “ain’t no photoshoppin’/friends bipolar” and Hussle’s during the line “I’m in Argentina wiping tears full of confusion,” referencing where Lamar was performing when the late rapper died in 2019.You can watch the remarkable video at the top of this post. The video credits its deepfake technology to Deep Voodoo, the studio founded by “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. In late 2020, the company produced the viral video series “Sassy Justice” featuring a character named Fred Sassy, a doppelgänger for Donald Trump created using deepfake technology.
