Marta Balaga Fremantle bosses Jennifer Mullin and Andrea Scrosati opened up about the company’s three-year deal with Angelina Jolie at Cannes’ Mipcom. “She had plenty of other opportunities,” said Mullin, Group CEO for the super-indie, which produces everything from “Got Talent” and “Idol” to “My Brilliant Friend” and Luca Guadagnino film “Bones and All.” “First of all, [Jolie] is global. We are global. She has impeccable taste, she wants to tell ambitious, impactful stories. All of these notes really align with what we want to do.” “She can tell any story she wants and we can put it anywhere in the world,” continued Mullin. “She felt that Fremantle would offer her the most flexibility and home where she can do her best work.”

Caroline Brew editor Jimmy Fox has joined Fremantle as executive vice president of unscripted development and sales for the company’s U.S. operations, as Jayson Dinsmore shifts to a new role within Fremantle as consulting producer. Dinsmore, who had previously served as president, alternative programming and development for Fremantle in North America, will now oversee the “America’s Got Talent” brand, including the upcoming Season 19, which begins production next month.

K.J. Yossman “Bad Sisters” creator and star Sharon Horgan is set to receive the Award of Excellence at Banff World Media Festival in June. Horgan, who is also co-founder of production company Merman (“Dreamland”) will also appear as a Summit Series keynote speaker. The writer, actor and producer is known for projects including “Motherland,” “Dreamland” (starring Lily Allen) and “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” in which she starred opposite Nicolas Cage. “Sharon is one of the top creators, showrunners and performers in the business, and her addition to Banff’s lineup of keynote speakers underscores the festival’s prominence on the world stage,” said Kevin Beggs, Banff board chair and Lionsgate Television’s chief creative officer. “We are privileged to be partnered with Sharon on ‘Motherland’ for the BBC and are beyond excited about its U.S. adaptation that recently received a pilot order at ABC. I’m thrilled that she will be joining us at Banff.”

Manori Ravindran Executive Editor of International Fremantle has promoted its long-time distribution boss Jens Richter to CEO of Commercial and International. Under his expanded remit, alongside leading Fremantle’s distribution business, Richter will oversee all commercial activity, including Fremantle’s digital and social business and FAST channels. As CEO International — a role he has held since joining Fremantle in 2014 — Richter oversees the global distribution of Fremantle’s finished programs, international content and acquisitions, and co-production strategy models. As CEO Commercial and International, he now also takes responsibility for Fremantle’s digital business.

Nick Vivarelli International Correspondent Veteran Fremantle executive Amelia Brown has been appointed the new CEO of Fremantle U.K., replacing Simon Andreae who abruptly stepped down from the role earlier this week citing health reasons. Brown, who has been with Fremantle for 20 years, is the former managing director of its U.K. label Thames and has been a key creative on trademark Fremantle hit shows as “Britain’s Got Talent” and “The X Factor.” Fremantle in a statement noted that Brown has also been instrumental in strengthening Thames’ slate of programming and expanding the scripted production outfit into the world of reality television with shows like “Too Hot To Handle” for Netflix and upcoming entertainment show “Mamma Mia! I Have a Dream” for ITV. Her successor as MD of Thames will be announced soon.

The Oscar and Emmy-nominated documentary filmmaker behind projects like “The Case Against Adnan Syed,” “Deliver Us From Evil” and “West of Memphis” will work with Fremantle’s Global Head of Documentaries, Mandy Chang, to create an internationally focused slate of nonfiction films.Berg’s company, Disarming Films, has been producing long-form documentary features and docuseries for over a decade.

Under the agreement, Berg’s Disarming Films and Fremantle will jointly develop a slate of documentaries, with Berg working closely with Fremantle’s global head of documentaries Mandy Chang to produce premium projects. Berg’s company, Disarming Films, has been producing documentary features and docuseries for broadcast for over a decade. Berg produced “The Case Against Adnan Syed” for HBO and is currently working on a special follow-up episode set to premiere this fall. Other projects include “We Are: The Brooklyn Saints” (Netflix), “Dogs” (Netflix) and “Keep This Between Us” (Freeform). Her latest film, “Phoenix Rising,” premiered at Sundance Film Festival in 2022 and on HBO and HBO Max.

Naman Ramachandran Fremantle and Japanese commercial broadcaster Kansai TV have signed a co-development deal to launch a new game show format in Japan.  Details of the show will be revealed imminently, the companies said at the ongoing Mipcom market in Cannes. Kansai TV will produce and broadcast the Japanese original version later this year, and Fremantle will handle production and global distribution for the show. The 'Eternals' co-stars recently collaborated on 'Without Blood', an adaptation of the best-selling novel by Alessandro Baricco, which Angelina directs and Salma stars in and Salma was "blown away" by the filmmaker's kindness. She told Deadline: "Angelina is the best director I’ve ever worked with.

Angelina Jolie is in Italy this month to direct her newest film, . The movie will be Jolie's fifth as a director, and her first for the three-year filmmaking agreement she signed with the Fremantle production company in March.In addition to directing, Jolie also wrote and produced. The cast will include Academy Award nominees Salma Hayek and Demián Bichir, and the group will film in the Puglia and Basilicata regions of southern Italy, as well as in Rome. Based on the novel by Alessandro Baricco, the film takes place during the aftermath of an unidentified conflict in the Italian countryside.

3-year international filmmaking deal with Fremantle that was announced in March, and “Without Blood” is the first project under that pact. Producing the film are Fremantle, Jolie for her Jolie Productions , Lorenzo Mieli for The Apartment Pictures and Lorenzo De Maio for De Maio Entertainment.

Naman Ramachandran Gabriella Carriere has joined Fremantle as group head of strategy, reporting into Andrea Scrosati, group COO and CEO continental Europe. Carriere joins from Sky Italia where she held the positions of Sky Wifi marketing senior director, media and commercial partnerships director and strategy director since joining in 2016.
