SAG-AFTRA on Thursday named NEON’s Michael Mann-directed Ferrari as one of its latest recipients of an interim agreement for publicity.

You might be asking, where has British filmmaker Andrew Haigh been, and the answer is right here and under your nose. While he hasn’t made a feature-length film since 2017’s English coming-of-age movie, “Lean On Pete,” starring Charlie Plummer, Chloë Sevigny and Travis Fimmel, he was right back on it in 2021 with The BBC miniseries “The North Water” starring Colin Farrell, Jack O’Connell and Stephen Graham.

Michael Mann’s Ferrari has been selected as the closing-night movie at the New York Film Festival in October. The news Thursday comes after the pic starring Adam Driver and Penélope Cruz was tapped to world premiere in competition in August at the Venice Film Festival.

Rebecca Rubin Film and Media Reporter Michael Mann’s racing drama “Ferrari” is set to close the 61st annual New York Film Festival. The sports biopic, starring Adam Driver as automotive mogul Enzo Ferrari, will make its North American premiere at Alice Tully Hall on Oct. 13.

Brent Lang Executive Editor Neon has acquired “Ferrari,” the next film from Michael Mann. It will release the drama in theaters nationwide on Christmas Day. The film, Mann’s first since 2015’s “Blackhat,” will star Adam Driver as Enzo Ferrari and Penélope Cruz as his wife, Laura Ferrari. The ensemble includes Shailene Woodley, Jack O’Connell, Sarah Gadon, Patrick Dempsey and Gabriel Leone. According to an official description, the film is set during the summer of 1957 and follows Enzo Ferrari as he deals with the possible bankruptcy of his company, as well as his stormy marriage and the death of his son. Against that backdrop, Ferrari wagers everything on one race, the 1,000-mile trek across Italy, the Mille Miglia.

These titles are believed to have been officially invited to the Lido in competition, according to inside sources. Every episode of Steven Knight’s new series “Rogue Heroes” begins with a declarative statement: “Based on a true story, the events depicted which seem most unbelievable … are mostly true.” It’s the sort of pithy postmodern title card that might elicit an eye-roll. Yet it also perfectly encapsulates this rollicking tale of the Special Air Service (SAS) formation during World War II.  While occasionally deploying anachronistic ‘80s rock songs to lighten the mood and using title cards that can probably be best described as graffiti-chic, “Rogue Heroes” is both utterly unbelievable and, well, mainly true to the facts.

Jordan Moreau Adam Driver is going Italian again. He will play racecar driver Enzo Ferrari in director Michael Mann’s upcoming drama “Ferrari,” and the first look at his transformative role has been officially released. The movie takes place during 1957, when Ferrari enters the 1,000-mile Mille Miglia race. Born in 1898, Ferrari will be around 59 years old in the film, putting him a couple decades older than Driver, who is currently 38. Fortunately these are two exceptionally talented actors who pull it all off – in more ways than one.

US network Epix has become the first international buyer of Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight’s BBC1 drama SAS: Rogue Heroes. 

AMC+ (BBC Two in the UK), the five-episode miniseries is set in the 1850s and follows Patrick Sumner (Jack O’Connell), a disgraced ex-army surgeon who joins a whaling expedition to the Arctic.

Relentless and brutal, Andrew Haigh’s “The North Water” is the story of two men who are practically of different species and how they bounce off each other in the middle of nowhere. Reportedly filmed further north than any other production in history, Haigh’s 5-part adaptation of the highly acclaimed novel by Ian McGuire premieres on July 15 on AMC+ and will likely migrate to the cable channel AMC eventually, just as “Gangs of London” did in 2021 after its 2020 AMC+ launch.

Andrew Haigh is one of the most respected English filmmakers working today because of the humane and tender qualities he lends his projects. Whether it’s his LGBT-themed dramas like “Weekend” and “Looking,” or the truly excellent “45 Years” from 2015, Haigh brings a subtle and tender style reminiscent of a novelist’s sensibility.
